Prerequisites
The course is intended for students of master degree studies. Basic knowledge on history of European baroque painting in 17th and 18th century is presupposed.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course is focused on the specifics of the Venetian paintings in the 18th century and on the work of the most important Venetian painter and fresco-painter Giambattista Tiepolo. One of the topics of this course is the fresco decoration in the residence in Würzburg, which will be introduced as an excellent example of interpretation of the baroque wall painting.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course student should be able to:
- describe the specifics of the Venetian paintings and its role in the history of the European painting;
- identify the typical stylistic feature of the Tiepolo´s work and explain, why the Tiepolo´s work is so extraordinary;
- explain the importance of the Venetian painting for the painting in the Central Europe in the 17th and 18th century and demonstrate it with concrete examples.

  • Giambattista Tiepolo and his work.
  • Stylistic features of the Tiepolo´s work – drawing, colour, light, composition.
  • Wall paintings.
  • Fresco decoration of the residence in Würzburg.
