- Course objectives
- The course deals with the person and work of Czechoslovak president Edward Beneš, mainly his role in the creation of the independent state, the foreign policy of Czechoslovakia. It examines the role and importance of the government in exile in London and Beneš’s share in the renewal of Czechoslovak independence in 1939–1945.
- Learning outcomes
- Class-leavers will be able to describe international status of Czechoslovak republic, to characterize part of Edward Beneš in the creation of an independent Czechoslovak state and his role as the long-term definitive creator of Czechoslovak foreign policy, to review his growing importance in domestic politics, his role during the period when the country and all of Europe were threatened by Fascism, and his part in the re-establishment of Czechoslovak independence between 1939 and 1945.
