Course objectives
As part of the course “Art and culture in Flanders”, students attend two events of the Week of the Dutch Language: the ONETS day on Friday the 8th of October and the Day of Flemish Culture on Friday the 5th of November. They take part in preparatory activities (lectures and assignments) and attend lectures by guest lecturers.
The purpose of this course is multifold:
- Students are introduced into the culture of the Low Countries and of Flanders in particular. The focus is on painting, cinematography and performing arts.
- They get to know a number of organizations that play an important role in Dutch Studies, in particular the Nederlandse Taalunie and ONETS (Overleg Neerlandici van Tsjechië en Slowakije). They work together with students from other Dutch departments in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
- Students are introduced to the specialist subjects of ONETS colleagues, namely community interpreting, Frisian and creative writing (poetry).
