- Course objectives
- Evolution of Polish from the 10th century to the end of the 19th century. Information about relations among Slavonic languages, important historical changes in the phonetics and morphology of Polish, the history of Polish orthographic norms and Polish dialects. Practical analysis of Old Polish texts. At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain main historical changes in Polish language, to apply theoretical knowledge in practice, i.e. to analyse Old Polish and dialectological texts.
- Learning outcomes
- The students of the course will be able at the end of the course:
- to identify and characterize the main stages of the historical development of Polish;
- to describe the main directions of the historical development of the phonetic, grammatical and lexical subsystem of Polish;
- to classify individual phenomena of historical development of Polish into the West Slavonic and wider Slavic context;
- to read and analyze Old Polish texts;
- to describe the language situation in Poland, identify and characterize the territorial varieties (dialects) of Polish. - Syllabus

- Active participation, oral exam (it tests theoretical knowledge and ability to apply it in practice, oral analysis of a part of a transliterated Old Polish text is required).
