Course objectives
The lectures are divided into two parts. In the first part, an overview of the specific conditions and tendencies of the development and characteristics of young adult readers is provided. The second part consists of lectures on the historical development of the genre from older literature until the 1880s.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student should be able to:
- understand and explain the development of Czech children’s books;
- explain the basic terminology of the field;
- interpret the specifics of children's and youth literature;
- interpret the specifics of a young reader.

  • 1. Literature on the genre.
  • 2. Intentional and unintentional part of the genre.
  • 3.– 4. A detailed age division of its readership.
  • 5.–13. Development of the genre from the 18th century.
