- Course objectives
- The course introduces students to the basics of phonetics and phonology. Students should be able to use the basic concepts when analyzing Czech data.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, the student is able to:
- use IPA alphabet;
- classify vocalic and consonantal sounds in Czech according to their phonetic features;
- formalize distribution of sounds;
- work with phonological features;
- understand the distinction between underlying and surface phonological structures;
formulate and encode basic phonological processes of Czech;
- formulate basic principles of syllabification and define basic syllable types. - Syllabus
