- Course objectives
- Students will be introduced to the problems of early Czech music historiography. Emphasis will be laid upon factography, critical assessment of the relevant literature and listening self-confidence.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will be able to understand the stylistic development in music performed in the Czech lands in the given period. The student will be able to describe the drivers of musical development in this period, especially aristocratic patronage and music in the religious orders. The student will be familiar with composers working in or from the Bohemian lands (including recent musicological reflection).

- 1. Music in the Czech history before 1420
- 2. Musical culture from the Hussite movement to the battle of White Mountain (1420 - 1620)
- 3. Music of the baroque (1620 - 1740)
- 4. Music of the classical style (1740 - 1810)

- Lectures with visual and musical examples, discussions. Essay

- Written exam consisting of 30 questions involves also identification of music examples.
