- Course objectives
- "Foscolo reloaded: new perspectives on Ugo Foscolo's work" The course is an introduction to Ugo Foscolo's work and to its criticism.
- Learning outcomes
- Students will become acquainted with the work of Ugo Foscolo. The course introduces students to the Italian and European literary of 18-19th centuries and socio-cultural context of Foscolo's work.

- Readings covered in the course: - "Dei Sepolcri" - Sonetti e odi - excerpts from: "Inni alle Grazie" and "Dissertation on an Ancient Hymn to the Graces" - "Le Ultime lettere di Jacopo Ortis" - excerpts from: "La Chioma di Berenice" - excerpts from: "Dell'origine e dell'ufficio della letteratura" - excerpts from: Foscolo's literary articles in journals - excerpts from: other Foscolo's novel - Language, style and narrative technique in Foscolo's work - Foscolo's Political, philosophical and literary toughts - Italian and European in 18th-19th century European literature - the writer’s allegeable library, his figurative world and his milieu Students will become familiar with the literary criticism concerning Ugo Foscolo. Students are expected to do the readings assigned and actively participate in the class discussion. Handouts will be provided to the students. Students will be required to read Foscolo's novel "Le ultime lettere di Jacopo Ortis" in one of the editions specified in "Supplementary Materials". Students are required to get one of those editions.

- Teaching methods
- The course will be conducted in Italian. Foscolo's works will be read in Italian. Students will read the whole novel "Le ultime lettere di Jacopo Ortis" and extraxts of some works of Ugo Foscolo. Students will receive weekly assignments and will be expected to actively participate in the class discussion. Foscolo's works will be previously read at home, and then discussed in the class. It is strongly encouraged the seminars' attendance taught by visiting professors.

- Oral exam on all the topics studied in the course and written exam on a topic previously decided with the instructor. Active participation in the class discussion.
