- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to the development of contemporary Polish society and its historical and cultural background. The course is intended not only for the students of the Polish studies, but also for students of another subjects, who are interested to become familiar with selected aspects of social, economical and cultural life in contemporary Poland.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students will be able:
- to understand topical issues of present-day Poland,
- to interpret main events and selected social phenomena in contemporary Poland,
- to explain current conditions and outlooks of the Polish society in comparision with the situation in the Czech Republic or other EU-countries. - Syllabus
- 1/ The demographic situation in present-day Poland: dynamics, causes and consequences of the most important changes, ethnic minorities in Poland.
- 2/ The current system of eduacation in Poland.
- 3/ The transformation of urban and rural areas and life in Poland.
- 4/ The transformation of the Polish economy and the current economic situation.
- 5/ Situation on the Polish labor market after 1989. Growth of social disparities and inequalities.
- 6/ Political system and political scene in Poland. Poland and its role in the European Union.
- 7/ Contemporary Polish media scene and influence of mass media on Polish society.
- 8/ Private life of Poles: changes in families and intimate life of Poles after 1989 & & Contemporary lifestyle and social life of Poles and its changes.
