Prerequisites
In order to enroll in the course it is requested to complete the course Anatomy for Anthropologists I-III and pass the exam.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
Course objectives
The main objective of the course is to provide a complete overview of morphology, structure and composition of human skeletal system.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
summarize the factors influencing the morphogenesis during the pre- and post-natal development;
describe the elements, structure and composition of human bone tissue;
explain the principles of growth, development and maturation of human skeleton;
describe the metabolism and biomechanics of human bones;
decide on the sex of an individual based on the sexual dimorphism of human skeletal system; explain the variability of the skeletal system;
recognize the varieties and pathologies of the skeletal system; interpret the evolutionary and culturally-induced skeletal modifications;
describe the macro- and micro-evolutionary trends.
