Course objectives
The goal of this course is to gain theoretical and practical information about the work in laboratories with higher (BSL3) and the highest (BSL4) level of biological protection. Students will be familiar with the construction and function of BSL3 and BSL4 laboratories, will know the rules for work, personal protective equipment, how to handle and accident. Students will visit functional BSL3 and BSL4 laboratories.
Learning outcomes
Students will know theoretically and practically the specifics of BSL3 and BSL4 laboratories, will be able to work in these laboratories, will know how to use the personal protective equipment and will know how to handle an acceident in these laboratores.

  • 6. Four primary controls of biological safety.
  • 7. Decontamination.

  • 9. Key tips for working in a virological laboratory.
  • 10. SOPs.
  • 11. Practical course.
  • 12. Visir of BSL3 and BSL4 laboratory.

Teaching methods
The practical course takes place in the form of block teaching and combines theoretical lectures and practical demonstrations and excusion to BSL3 and BSL4 laboratory.
Assessment methods
The participation in the practical course is mandatory. At the end, there will be a final test.
