Course objectives
This subject is focused on basic functions and principles of electron microscope and related detectors as well as principles electron microscopy and microanalysis.
Learning outcomes
student will be able to: -be well versed in instrumental problematics of electron microscopy;
-choose the best HW configuration for given analytical issue;
-choose optimal analytical conditions;
-consider appropriateness of the imaging method (SE, BSE, CL) for given issue;
-select suitable analytical method (EDS, WDS);
-prepare a sample for microanalysis

  • types of electron microscopes construction of an electron microscope vacuum system electron gun electron optics interaction of the sample with a beam of accelerated electrons SE, BSE detectors X-ray detectors (EDS, WDS) principles of electron microanalysis sample preparation for electron microscopy and microanalysis
