Course objectives
The main aim of the course is to acquaint students with basic techniques and strategies of writing a scientific article. Partial aim of the course is writing training.
Learning outcomes
Thanks to the course the student will be acquainted with exemplary scientrometric indicators, will be able to choose a suitable scientific journal, will know all the steps of the review process, will understand the basic tactics of the publication strategy and will be able to plan creative work independently.
Syllabus
  • The course is divided into three blocks. The first block is devoted to the technical aspects of publishing, the second block to the review process and the third block to the actual preparation of the manuscript.
  • Block I: scientific identifiers (ResearcherID, ORCID); scientific social networks (Academia.edu, ResearchGate); scientific databases (WoS, SCOPUS); scientific metrics (IF, H-index); ranking of journals, selection of a suitable journal, basic publishing strategies.
  • Block II: review process; manuscript preparation; cover letter preparation; uploading to the system; review; review response; amendment letter; publications; dissemination; length of review process; basic publishing strategies.
  • Block III: article formalities; scientific article structure; article scope; article structure planning; how to start writing; first version; first revision; second version; second revision; draft manuscript.

Assessment methods
Three main outcomes of the course will be evaluated:
1. magazine selection;
2. writing a draft manuscript from the diploma thesis;
3. final discussion.
