This lecture also gives an overview of soil science basics. Thus, no absolved pedology course is needed. On the contrary, the basics in ecotoxicology are requested for better understanding of the lecture topic. Useful is also knowledge from lectures of environmental chemistry. - Course Enrolment Limitations

- Course objectives
- In this course, students will learn basics of pedology - soil science, soil protection and contamination, soil biota and soil ecotoxicology.
After this course, students should be able to:
- define soil and explain its importance
- discuss problems of soils and soil protection
- characterize main soil properties
- discuss soil properties with regard to fate of contaminants
- characterize main soil contaminants and their soil fate
- define "bioavailability" and discuss its basic principles
- define soil ecotoxicology
- conclude basic specifics of soil ecotoxicology
- recognize main soil biota and describe its ecology
- describe main exposure routes in soil
- outline main soil ecotoxicity bioassays and interpret their results
- describe main approaches to in situ assessment of soil biota
- combine knowledge of chemical fate in soil, ecology of soil organisms and soil properties
- interpret soil bioassays and studies with regard to ecological risk assessment
- propose approaches to assessment of soil contamination or chemical substances, pesticides etc. - Syllabus
