Syllabus
  • Star clusters are the key objects for our understanding of the very local stellar formation and evolution to global galactic dynamics. From the youngest star forming regions to the oldest globular clusters, we are able to trace the life cycle of objects for the complete known stellar mass interval. With the new observational techniques and instruments, also extragalactic star clusters become more and more important to astrophysics. The course will cover the complete life circle of a star cluster up to 15 Gyr from an observational as well as theoretical point of view. On the basis of the capabilities of the upcoming instruments (E-ELT, Gaia mission, etc.), extragalactic star clusters will also discussed in more details.
