Cíle předmětu
Journal Club has been established as a forum for discussion on scientific papers published in the field of genetics, genomics, molecular and cell biology. Discussions aim to i) deepen scientific knowledge of the participants, ii) improve rethoric skills („the art of discussion“), and iii) extend the English vocabulary.
Osnova
  • Actual topics to be presented and discussed are selected by the participants. The selection of topics is supervised by teacher(s). A range of topics is discussed, however themes related to yeast and plant biology are preferred. Some examples are given here: genomics, epigenetics, genome evolution, RNA molecules, telomeres, centromeres, chromosome evolution, DNA repair etc. These topics should be taken only as examples as students are encouraged to choose papers close to their interests and research focus.

  • Scientific papers published in the field of genetics, genomics, molecular and cell biology.
Výukové metody
Papers are presented to all participants usually as a short Powerpoint presentation summarizing key findings of the paper. The presentation is followed by discussion. Discussed papers are available to the participants beforehand through the IS MUNI system. Teaching methods: Powerpoint presentations, class discussion, home work (papers selected for discussion should be read by the participant beforehand).
Metody hodnocení
The quality of presentations is evaluated by teachers. The activity of participants during class discussions is evaluated by teachers.
