Supplier department: Department of Chemistry – Chemistry Section – Faculty of Science - Prerequisites
- Basic knowledge of Organic Chemistry
- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The difference between oxygen containg compounds on one side and sulphur and selenium compounds on the other and the reason for that behaviour is the main reason of this course.
- Syllabus
- Lessons: Some fundamental aspects of Sulfur and Selenium Chemistry: Lessons are divided into four main parts. - The first one deals with the main families of sulfur reagents and their general properties. We will focus on thiols, sulfides, disulfides and dithiooacetals - The second part will be devoted to syntheses and applications of sulfoxides in organic chemistry (metallation, Pummerer reaction, sigmatropic rearrangments, ….). - The third one deals with syntheses of sulfones and few aspects of their reactivity (especially the formation of C-C bonds). - The last part will present selenium reagents and their main transformations (cationic, anionic and radical pathways).
