Course objectives
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- understand and explain concept of sustainable development as a strategy of development of post-modern society, including indicators of sustainability and factual aplications in political and legal environment EU and Czech Rep.
- interpret the approaches of cleaner production and their scientific technical, technological, economic, legal, and governing tools
- submit reasonable recommendations how to implement concept of SD and where are the limits of the enforcement at global, national, regional and local scale
Syllabus
  • 1) Global social and environmental issues, evolution of the economy and the environment
  • 2) All the aspects of the sustainable development (SD) concept
  • 3) Indicators of sustainability
  • 4) Important international documents; international obligations of the Czech Rep.
  • 5) National environmental policy of the Czech Rep. and its development
  • 6) Environmental policy of EU a OECD.
  • 7) Principles and the structure of Czech environmental legislation
  • 8) Local Agenda 21
  • 9) Principles and strategy of cleaner production
  • 10) Realization of the cleaner production,
  • 11) Role of scientists and technicians
  • 12) Examples of cleaner production introduction in various industrail sectors.
  • 13) Environmental management of companies and the tools
  • 14) Economical and legal tools of cleaner production

Education is performed as lectures with Powerpoint prezentation. They are encouraged to ask questions and be in interaction with the lecturer.
