- Course objectives
- At the end of this course the student will be able to: understand and explain the phenomena concerning ionizing radiation and its effects on living organisms, to use the information about the physical processes to assess their impact on the environment

- Matter structure and elementary particles.
- ionizing radiation: electromagnetic spectra, particle spectra - definitions, measurement, units.
- ionizing radiation: Applications - Nuclear reactions and energy, medical applications, detectors.
- Mechanical waves - Sound and its effects.
