Course objectives
The subject extends basic knowledge from climatology and hydrology obtained from MSc. study in the physical geography for the new actual scientific knowledge. It concerns, on the one hand, study of basic aspects of the global climate and its changes, on the other hand, selected problems of applied hydrology.
Syllabus
  • Global Climate: 1. Multi-dimensional methods of statistical analysis of climatological series. 2. Instrumental, historical and paleoclimatological data. 3. Climatic system, basic climate-forming factors, hypothesis of climatic change. 4. Climate modelling. 5. Climatic scenarios and methods of their construction. 6. Impacts of possible climatic change. 7. Energetical basis of climatic system, mechanisms of energy exchange and their temporal-spatial changes. 8. Global atmospheric circulation - basic models and their comparison. 9. Recent anthropogenic impacts on the atmosphere and climate - primary and secondary components (smog), dry and wet deposition, acid rains, destruction of the ozonosphere Applied hydrology: 1. Characteristics of water regime. 2. Hydrological balance. 3. Natural and anthropogenic impacts on water system in the nature, runoff process. 4. Qualitative damage of the hydrosphere. 5. Observation and checking of the water quality in the streams. 6. General and special protection of water resources. 7. Hydrological forecats - information and warning services. 8. Protection against floods.
