- Course objectives
- Student will be able to:
- identify the most common minerals and rocks and describe their basic physical and chemical properties,
- identify the basic groups of fossils and to place them in time,
- understand the principles of plate tectonics and describe palaeogeographic evolution of continents and oceans,
- describe the evolution of life on Earth and connect it with major chronostratigraphic units,
- orientate in geological maps and actively use them for their own work,
- orientate basically in regional-geological units of Czechia,
- know the basic dating methods and possibilities of their applications. - Learning outcomes
- Student will be able to:

- describe the evolution of life on Earth and connect it with major chronostratigraphic units,

- know the basic dating methods and possibilities of their applications. - Syllabus
- The course will include individual blocks related to: 1. Fundamentals of plate tectonics and the development of continents and oceans,
- 2. Division of geological past, basic historical geology,
- 3. Main groups of fossils and their change in geological history of the Earth, determination of fossils,
- 4. Formation of minerals and rocks, their classification and properties including their determination,
- 5. Fundamentals of regional geology, the main regional-geological units Czechia,
- 6. Geological maps and their use,
- 7. Digital geological data for the territory of Czechia and their use,
- 8. Dating methods of geological past,
- 9. Basic geological laboratory techniques,
- 10. Use of geological data in geography.
