Prerequisites
Knowledge and participation in lectures related to the light, scanning electron and transmission electron microscopies.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to teach students how to work with transmission electron microscopes and advanced light microscopes, to learn how to utilize them for the study of different types of samples (solid materials and biological samples), to master the preparation of samples and to analyze captured images.
Learning outcomes
Completing the course, the student will be able to:
- utilize various types of transmission electron microscopes using different types of contrast,
- use advanced optical microscopes to study biological samples,
- know techniques of sample preparation,
- analyze captured images.
Syllabus
  • Preparation of metal and other solid materials for transmission electron microscopy
  • Transmission electron microscopy of solid materials
  • Preparation of biological samples for transmission electron microscopy and cryo-electron microscopy
  • Transmission electron microscopy of biological samples and cryo-electron tomography
  • Optical microscopy with extremely high resolution
  • Visualization of living specimens by optical microscopy
  • Correlative light and electron microscopy
  • Image data processing

Laboratory courses will be performed at CEITEC MU and Institute of Physics of Materials CAS

Credit after submitting and testing of protocols from all tasks.
