- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The subject is designed as a course motivating students to acquire knowledge of chemistry and the technology of making historical paints, varnishes and fermes. The aim is not only to obtain a theoretical overview of the raw materials and the resulting products, but also, within the framework of laboratory exercises, practical verification of the preparation of the target products and their optimal application technology according to historical recipes. At the same time, emphasis is placed on the possibility of modifying recipes from a toxicological and ecological point of view.
- Learning outcomes
- After completion of the course, the student will gain a deeper understanding of the chemical nature and technology of making historic paints, varnishes and fermeses, will be able to work independently in the development of this area, design and apply surface treatments within the framework of the care of cultural heritage objects. The graduate will also be able to use professional literature, databases and other information sources effectively and systematically.
