- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The aim of the lecture is to obtain knowledge of basics of the statistical physics and ability to apply statistical physics to basics physical problems.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course, the student will be able to:
- apply canonical and grandcanonical distribution to particular physical problems;
- apply density matrix formalism;
- use Boltzmann equation to derive basic equations describing dynamics of many particle systems. - Syllabus
- 1. Microcanonical ensemble 2. Canonical ensembke and its applications: Maxwell-Boltzmann velocity distribution, ideal gas, Boltzmann non-ideal gas, black body radiation. 3. Grandcanonical ensemble and its application: Bose-Einstein gas, Fermi-Dirack gas and their low-temperature and high-temperature limits 4. Density matrix operator 5.
