Course objectives
The descriptive inorganic chemistry of the main group elements is presented with emphasis on the compounds with hydrogen, oxygen and the halogens. The periodic trends in physical and chemical properties of the p-block elements and their compounds and the relations between structure and chemical reactivity are systematically treated. A diverse array of selected topics covers fullerenes and other non-metallic clusters, chemistry of Zintl phases, superacids and homopolyatomic cations and anions as well as some important inorganic ring systems.
