Course objectives
Ecotoxikology and quality of aqutic environment. Aquatic environment (properties and effects on biota). Aquatic ecosystems - stability, resistence. Sediment toxicity tests.Fish toxicity tests. Amphibian test of developmental toxicity - FETAX. Biocenoses of aquatic ecosystems in ecotoxicology. Structural and functional parameters of ecosystems. Ecosystem level in ecotoxicological testing. (field tests, microcosms, mesocosms). Water quality assessment.
Syllabus
  • 1. Ecotoxicology and water quality (basic terms, approaches, exposure / dose / effect) , QSAR. 2. Water environment - types, structure and attributes of water, importance for biota. 3. Water ekosystems - stability, resistence, resilence. Hierarchy of aquatic ecotoxicology (individuals / populations / ecosystems). 4. Testing in aquatic ecotoxicology, results analyses. 5. Testing of sediment toxicity. 6. Fish toxicity tests (acute toxicity, developmental toxicity, testing of endocrine disruption, carcinogenicity tests). 7. Amphibian developmental toxicity test - FETAX. 8. Aquatic ecosystems : lotic and lentic waters (spatial categorization, biota), extreme ecosystems. 9. System aquatic ecotoxicology: structural and functional parameters of ecosystems in ecotoxicology (production, respiration, decomposition, trophy, saprobic systems). 10. Ecotoxicological tests on ecosystem levels (parameters, methods), field tests, manipulated tests (microcosms, lentic mesocosms, limnocorrals, lotic mesocosms) 11. Case studies - efects and trends, secundar effects. 11. Biology of fish organism and use in ecotoxicology.
