- Course objectives
- The course is devoted to master degree students of the subject Geology. Characteristics of Proboscidea and their origin, systematic review of fossil representatives, basic morphological features, paleoecology, biostratigraphy, dwarf forms and their interpretation, migration - seasonal and induced by the environment changes, temporal and regional process of extinction.
- Syllabus
- Basic phylogenetic classification of the order of Proboscidea, their skeletal and other basic anatomical features, attempts at defining and review of the evolutionary tendencies of the order of Proboscidea, Moeritheriidae, Numidotheriidae, Barytheriidae, Deinotheriidae, Elephantiformes: Mammutidae, Gomphotheriidae, Stegodontidae, Elephantidae, dwarf forms, extinction.
