Course objectives
The subject gives the instruction how to use mineralogical, chemical and petrografic methods at the study of stone and ceramic artefacts.
Syllabus
  • 1. Descriptive part: macroscopic and microscopic photodocumentation and digital image processing - comparing analyses 2. Experiment in petroarcheology
  • 3. Laboratory research: a. Optical methods b. X-ray methods c. DTA d. Electron microscopy and microanalysis
  • 4. Practical part: a. Study of stone artefacts (quern-stones, blades, stone points, etc.) i. Igneous and metamorphic
  • ii. Sedimentary: clastic, silicites
  • b. Study of ceramics i. sandy pottery
  • ii. graphite pottery
  • iii. crucibles iv. glazing, engobas
  • c. Study of historical mortars and plasters
