Course objectives
Principal factors underlying differentiation patterns of vegetation on global scale. Vegetation zones and altitudinal belts. Tropical rain forest. Characterization, ecological factors, distribution, species pool, regional differentiation, conservation of the main biomes of the World: Mangroves. Transitions to savannas, gallery forests. Savannas. Semi-deserts and deserts. Evergreen forests of Mediterranean type. Macquis, garigues, tomillares, chaparal. Temperate broad-leaved forests. Boreal coniferous forests, taiga. Tundra.

  • 1) What is zonal, azonal and extrazonal biome, environmental factors determining vegetation variation at a global scale. 2-3) Tropical rain forests 4-5) Mangroves, savanna-tropical forest transitional zone, savannas 6-7) Arid ecosystems (deserts, semideserts) 8) Mediterranean ecosystems 9-10) Temperate grasslands 11-12) Temperate forest ecosystems 13) Boreal coniferous forests 14) Tundras
