- Course objectives
- Surface phenomena. Inpingment rate. Desorption. Adsorption equation. Evaporation and condensation. Volume phenomena. Gas solubility in solids. Diffusion. Saturated pressure measurement. Gas flow measurement. Ion pump. Cryopump. Sorption pump.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction: general characterisation of bonded gases, sorption and desorption, materials used in vacuum technology 2. Gases adsorbed on surfaces: interaction in gases, adsorption, desorption, evaporation and condensation 3. Gases in solid materials: gas solubility in solid materials, gas difusion in solid materials, gas permeability through walls, gas flow in solid materials 4. Sorption pumps: cryopumps, zeolit pumps, sublimation and ion pumps 5. Measurement of partial pressures: static and dynamic mass spectrometers 6. Measurement of gas flow: method of increased pressure, mechanical flowmeters, electronic flowcontrollers
