- Course objectives
- At the end of this course, students obtain the knowledge about different types of particles in plasma, about their collisions and reactions. The students obtain also the knowledge of theoretical description of collisions and experimental methods of their study.
- Syllabus
- Fundamental terms and classification of atomic collisions. Elastic collisions, measuring methods of collision cross section. Diffusion and mobility, diffusion length. Charge exchange collision. Recombination of ions with electrons. Mechanism of electron-ion recombination. Experimental study of recombination processes. Recombination between positive and negative ions. The role of metastabile particles in collision processes. Penning electron spectroscopy. Dissociation of molecules by electron impact. Atomic recombination in plasma. Experimental determination of atomic densities, actinometry. Creation and destruction of negative ions. Measuring of negative ions densities in plasma. Chemiionization, chemical reactions in plasma.
