Cíle předmětu

At the end of the subject the student will be able to comprehend the role of variable stars in the open cluster studies.

Osnova

Star formation regions are the birth places of stars. The stellar formation process in these regions either goes on or has just finished. The size of these regions are determined by the members of these stellar associations. Members all have formed at more or less the same time. Therefore, the members are expected to have same age, chemical composition and kinematical properties. It is utmost difficulty to observe all the members to determine these parameters because of the limited telescope times. However, we are lucky since eclipsing binaries and multiple stars are formed together with single stars in these regions. Hence, we have a direct way to determine the important stellar parameters of these regions through the detailed study of member eclipsing binaries. In the course of these lectures, analysis techniques of eclipsing binaries and specially what we will get from eclipsing binaries to understand star formation regions will be given with examples for some selected stellar formation regions.
