- Course objectives
- The course aims to widen practical knowledges and experiences of students attending Comparative osteology lecture. Within the course students will be familiarized with methodologies and rules of manipulation with human and animal osteological material dated to Pleistocene and Holocene. They achieve basic comparative principles leading to anatomic description and taxonomic determination of documented material, to age estimations and descriptions of basic taphonomic agents forming the taphonomic history of studied archeological site.
- Syllabus
- 1. Comparative osteology and its basic methodological protocols in description of osteological assemblage (MNI, NISP, MNE, MAU; age estimation; skeletal adaptation on different nourishment strategies)
- 2.-3. Skeleton axiale I. Cranium: training in inter-species and age differencies
- 4. Odonthology: training in inter-species and age differencies
- 5. Skeleton axiale II. Ossa trunci: training in inter-species and age differencies
- 6-7. Skeleton membrorum (appendiculare): upper/fore-limb training in inter-species and age differencies
- 8-9. Skeleton membrorum (appendiculare): lower/hind-limb training in inter-species and age differencies
- 10-11. Tafonomy: training in description and determination of biotic and abiotic agents ´ impact on osteological materiál from selected archeological contexts
- 12. Human Animal relationship: domestication impact on skeletal variability of selected faunal species
