Course objectives
The main objectives of the seminars are:
- allow students to see presentations of both younger and more advanced classmates (bachelor, master and doctoral students) and to teach students a scientific discussion on presented themes
- to teach the students to present the topic of their diploma thesis briefly and clearly and answer relevant questions
- to present interesting environment & health topics and relevant research, projects and teams of RECETOX and other institutions
- to introduce external guests and topics from applied practice, including introductions of potential prospective employers and graduate professions
- allow the students to participate in lectures by foreign guests on the occasion of their visit to the RECETOX Center
- practise working in teams to develop a case study
Learning outcomes
After this course, student will be practiced in the following skills:
- to present the topic of own work in the form of a short entry without tools at a round table discussion
- to follow a lecture about unknown issues, to get oriented in it and to ask relevant questions
- to discuss any scientific topic from the field of environment & health
- to describe topics that are addressed by classmates from the same, lower and higher grades
- to be oriented in research groups and topics of the RECETOX Center and other relevant institutions
- to know examples of topics and professions from applied practice of the field
- to work as a team on the assigned case study and present the results
Syllabus
  • - Seminars are held as joint seminars for students of Bachelor's and Master's studies in ŽPZ
  • - beginning of the semester - introductory seminar, division into working groups
  • - continuously - presenting news from the field in groups at the beginning of the seminar
  • - September/October - OSH training for the implementation of BP and DP
  • - September/October/November - presentation of teams, projects and topics by RECETOX experts, invited experts from applied practice and foreign guests
  • - October - case study assignment (independent work in groups)
  • - October/November - presentation of 2nd year NMgr theses, results of more than a year of work
  • - December - brief presentation of the topics of the new bachelor and diploma theses with questions and answers
  • - discussion seminar on how to write a thesis
  • - end of the semester - presentation of the results of the case study

Teaching methods
Regular seminars every week. Presentations by invited guests with discussions. Compulsory presentation of own thesis topic (DP). Independent work in groups on a case study as assigned by the instructor. In all cases (invited guests and students), an attempt to make the presentations interactive - i.e. an attempt to actively involve the audience in the form of surveys, questions, group work.
Assessment methods
The credit is awarded for active participation (student responds to lecture topics, questions asked, not "absent-minded" ...).
The conditions for getting credit are:
- attendance at 80% of seminars;
- present own work (DP) in the required format;
- present news four times during the semester in groups;
- prepare and present a case study.
When not meeting these conditions, the credit can be obtained after completing the alternative topic-oriented tasks assigned by the tutor.
