- Course objectives
- The main goal of the course is to understand the basics of infrared spectroscopy and to understand the possibilities of using this analytical method in various geological specializations, especially in mineralogy.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction, scales, axes and units, components of IR
- 2. Deduction of rotational and vibrational spectra, types of
- 3. Vibrations of 2-, 3,-, 4-, 5-, 7-atomic molecules and of an infinite crystal
- 4. Characteristic vibrations of common structural units, examples of mineral
- 5. Quantitative IR spectrosopy: polarized spectra, bond length - frequency correlation, concentration calibration
