Think deeply of simple things.

Degree programme objectives

The aim of the study is to provide students with comprehensive education in basic mathematical disciplines through constantly evolving curriculum that will:

Empower them to obtain new skills as needed in their employment or future education

Provide them with the skills and abilities to facilitate solving real world problems

Allow them to be effective oral and written communicators

The study of mathematics develops the ability to think critically and use mathematical reasoning in everyday life. While pursuing their mathematics degree, students will be introduced to a number of interesting and useful ideas in preparation for a number of mathematics career opportunities in business, government and industry.

We want to attract mathematically able students and to provide for them an academically coherent undergraduate programme, with courses that range from the fundamental to the advanced, reflecting the scholarship and research interests of staff.

  • Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:

    • reproduce the main results of basic mathematical disciplines,
    • identify mutual interactions of individual mathematical disciplines,
    • apply general mathematical results in specific practical problems,
    • interpret knowledge from specialized literature obtained by self-study,
    • create a coherent expert text,
    • formulate ideas in a formal mathematical language.

  • Occupational Profiles of Graduates

The graduate of the programme has developed abstract thinking and ability of creative approach to formulation and problem solving. He/she is well prepared for a follow-up master's study of mathematics. However, after completing the necessary concrete knowledge, he/she may also continue in the master's study of non-mathematical disciplines, or he/she can apply well in practice, in professions related to informatics, the financial sphere, or the economy.

  • Goals of Theses

The elaboration and defense of the bachelor's thesis is an obligatory part of the Mathematics study program. Bachelor's thesis elaboration demonstrates the ability to orientate in the topic of the bachelor thesis, the ability of professional work under the supervision of its supervisor and the ability of written and oral presentation.

Instructions for the elaboration of the bachelor's thesis are regulated by the Dean's Decree 5/2014 Instructions for elaboration of bachelor's, diploma and rigorous thesis at the MU Faculty of Science.

  • Access to Further Studies

After completion of the Bachelor's studies, it is possible to continue further studies in any Master's degree programme (after satisfying the admission requirements).
