Degree programme objectives

The Doctoral Study Program Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology is a four-year program based on the study and the acquisition of the ability to understand the relationship between man and the environment and their mutual interactions, the importance of adapting and strengthening them to promote positive development of the health of individuals and populations. Emphasis is placed on mastering the broad context leading to the ability to deduce the importance and weight of the environment and lifestyle in protecting and supporting health and priorities in the field of primary prevention. During the PhD studies, the student learns to acquire scientific information, to work with them when deciding on specific prevention options for selected non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular, oncological, metabolic, immune, respiratory and other diseases. Students will acquire the ability to critically analyze used methodologies, the ability to interpret their results and their presentation. In the field according to the specific focus of his dissertation, the student should be able to further develop his / her field of study at the end of his / her studies.

  • Goals of Theses

Doctoral Ph.D. in Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Epidemiology must meet the requirements applied to scientific work internationally. The introduction of the thesis documents the state of research in a specific research issue. Since the HPLE is based on a population approach, quantitative research methods are preferred, the results are presented on the basis of statistical processing and the conclusions are formulated exactly. Discussion must be conducted in a curriculum of instruction and criticism using recent international literature. Formal requirements for work respect the general recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine.

The standards of dissertation theses at LF MU are regulated by the Dean's Directive No. 5/2021 "Guidelines on the formal requirements of dissertation theses prepared at the MU Faculty of Medicine"
