Course objectives
Spatial planning refers to the methods used by the public sector to influence the future distribution of activities in spaces of various scales. It is undertaken with the aims of creating a more rational territorial organisation of land uses and the linkages between them, to balance demands for development with the need to protect the environment, and to achieve social and economic objectives. Spatial planning embraces measures to co-ordinate the spatial impacts of other sectoral policies, to achieve a more even distribution of economic development between regions than would otherwise be created by market forces, and to regulate the conversion of land and property uses. Spatial planning includes all levels of land use planning including urban planning, regional planning, national spatial plans, and in the European Union international levels. In lectures fundamental information about spatial planning in the EU and Czech Republic is supplied, its objectives and problems, its fundamental concepts and tools, together with guidance to the course literature. In papers the skills and capacity for applying, analysing, and communicating acquired knowledge is trained. In addition, the ability to independently obtain and assess new information is trained.
