Course objectives
The aim of the course is to expand the knowledge and skills essential to passing the English examination (VB001). The emphasis is put on mastering the language and academic skills in a written form.
Syllabus
  • Week 1: Introduction, Week 2: Grammar and style, punctuation, Week 3: Plain English, formal and informal register, Week 4: Formal style: letter of complaint, letter of request, Week 5: Letter of application, cover letter and CV (resumé), Week 6: Form-filling, short reports, Week 7:Statistical reports, Week 8: Summary of an article, Week 9: Essay writing - Describing a process, Giving instructions, Week 10: Comparison/contrast essays, Week 11: Cause or effect essays, Week 12: Final test.
