Course objectives
The course is focused to team work of students in analysis, design and GIS application development. Teams of students follow the steps of the structured and/or object methodics. In each step, the roles (analyst, administrator of data sources, design expert) are assigned to team members. The results of each step are demonstrated in public. Part I of this course is focused to analysis of GIS application. The course is extended to comment methodical principles.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain metods of GIS projects; work with this information to realization of GIS project; create design of small GIS.
Syllabus
  • In the first part, Design and Analysis of GIS projects I, the course contains the following phases.
  • - Requirements collection, strategic plans of customer, environment of the company, geographic reflections, financial and time limits
  • - Process and data analysis - conceptual level, decomposition of processes, entities and relations, diagrams (DFD-diagram, ER-diagram, UML diagrams)
  • - Detailed analysis of the system, detailed entities and relations description including attributes, types and domains, functional analysis, cross reference of elementary functions and entities, life cycle of the instances of all entities
  • Output of first part of the course is document containing detail analysis of system.

Teaching methods
Lectures, group projects, presentation.
Assessment methods
Final group project: the teams are working on projects, the results of their work are presented continuously.
