- The main goal of the lesson: A combination of solo dance and the basics of couple dance with characteristic elements of the 20s-40s of the 20th century - solo jazz, charleston, lindy charleston and the basics of lindy hop. Swing is a dynamic, playful and relaxed dance that develops perception and feeling for music with a specific swing rhythm. The basis is not the perfection of movement, but the development of basic dance skills that reflect the playful musicality and creativity of the swing genre. We will compose the repertoire of dance elements into smaller and larger choreographies.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the student will be able to: a combination of solo dance and the basics of couple dance solo jazz, charleston, lindy charleston and the basics of lindy hop simple and more complex choreography
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to Swing History and Culture: A brief history of swing, its origins in the 1920s and 30s in the USA, its social significance, and its development into modern styles (such as Lindy Hop, Jive, West Coast Swing). Music: The structure of swing music (often in a 4/4 rhythm), basics of tempo, and the characteristics that make the music "swing." 2. Fundamentals Basic Step: Body posture, weight transfer, basic steps (e.g., rock step, triple step), and timing of movement. Partner Connection and Frame: Correct body posture, frame, and maintaining balance. Leading and Following: Basic principles of communication between the leader and follower during the dance. 3. First Basic Movements Swing Out: A characteristic step in Lindy Hop, transitioning between open and closed positions. Open and Closed Positions: How and when to change the couple's position. Basic Turns and Variations: Simple turns for both partners, with fun variations. 4. Technique and Rhythm Body and Rhythm Work: Engaging the hips, knees, and arms for smooth movement. Style Variations: An overview of different styles (e.g., Charleston, Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing) and their differences. Swing Rhythm and Musicality: How to dance to various tempos and styles of music. 5. Advanced Steps and Combinations Complex Leading and Following: More advanced forms of leading (such as spins, position changes). Footwork: Creative footwork (e.g., kicks, taps) to enhance style. Rhythmic Changes: Playing with rhythm, slowing down and speeding up movements, and adapting to the music. 6. Musical Interpretation and Improvisation Listening to the Music: How to perceive different rhythmic structures in the music and use them for improvisation. Personal Style and Expression: Developing an individual style, combining steps, and adding improvisational elements. 7. Social Dancing and Etiquette Dance Floor Etiquette: Rules and respect for your partner, cues for leading, and inviting others to dance. Social Dance and Performance: How to dance with different partners in pairs, adapting style based on the partner. 8. Practice and Improvement Regular Practice: Techniques and exercises to practice outside of lessons for improvement. Feedback: Evaluating progress and identifying areas for improvement. Swing Nights and Events: Recommendations for dancing at social events, where everything can be practiced in real settings.
