Course objectives
The aim of the course is to obtain basic information about the human digestive system, individual components of nutrition and its digestion, absorption and other metabolism.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course students will be able to:
- Describe basic biochemical processes in the human body;
- explain basic physiological principles of gastrointestinal tract function;
- describe the process of digestion and absorption of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins and water and following metabolic processes taking into account the role of physical activity;
- Understand the basics of regulation of metabolic processes (the role and functions of key enzymes and hormones).
Syllabus
  • Syllabus of teaching
  • - biologically important organic (carbohydrates, fats, proteins) and inorganic substances and their importance (water, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, hormones);
  • Anatomical description of the human digestive tract; - basic types of biochemical reactions;
  • - enzymes, structure, mechanism of action, enzyme distribution;
  • - carbohydrates, proteins and fats(basic meaning and distribution);
  • - principles of regulation of metabolism, catabolic and anabolic reactions in various states (postprandial, postabsorptive and catabolic period, physical exercise);
  • - carbohydrate metabolism, glycolysis, anaerobic and aerobic conditions, glycogenolysis, pentose cycle, gluconeogenesis;
  • - metabolism of proteins and amino acids, transamination, deamination, proteosynthesis, urea cycle, ketones;
