Course objectives
Graduates of the subject should be able to think logically and creatively in the connections between human health on the one hand and physical activity, exercise, sports, etc. on the other. They should be able to respect people's health when managing their physical activity, exercise and sports. With special emphasis on the prevention of health damage. To seek harmony between the physical and psychological abilities of the individual with regard to the benefits of movement. Realize the frequent need to individualize the approach with regard to age, past illnesses, and age barriers of the individual. The subject must develop students' critical thinking.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to:
1. list and explain reciprocal relations between health and exercise or sport activity
2. discuss to causation, prevention and consequences of injuries and failures of physiological organs and systems (locomotive, cardiovascular, respirátory, endocrine, metabolic, immune)
3. analyze chosen exercise or sport aktivity (e.g. endurance and strength training, running, cycling and swimming, common ball games) and identify its health risks
4. plan of exercise or sport activity with minimal health risks
Syllabus
  • 1. Reciprocal positive and negative relations between health and exercise or sport activity
  • 2. Oxidative stress and rhabdomyolysis after endurance physical performance - causation, symptoms, consequences, prevention
  • 3. Helath problems of exercise and sport in extreme climatic conditions (hypohydratation, hyponatremia, hyperthermia, hypothermia, altitude illness, dive injuries and decompression illness)
  • 4. Sudden cardiac death during sport aktivity - - causation, prevention
  • 5. Preventive medical examens - purpose, content, conclusions
  • 6. Overuse injuries of locomotive apparatus - causation, prevention, rules of treatment
  • 7. Orthesis, classic taping and kinesiotaping - purposes, rules of application
  • 8. Management of exercise and sport training and competion with minimalization of health problems
  • 9. Health risks of doping in sport
  • 10. Specific prevention of health risk of women, children and seniors during exercise and sport activity.
  • 11. Prevention of health risks during endurance running, cycling, swimming.
  • 12. Helath injuries after aggressive behaviour in sport - footbal, ice hockey, box.
  • 13. Exercise and sport activities of cardiac patients and peoples with blood hypertension - positive effects, and prevention of problems.
  • 14. Exercise and sport of patients with asthma bronchiale.
  • 15. Exercise and sport of patients with diabetes mellitus.
  • 16. Exercise and sport of patients with migraine.
