- Course objectives
- The course introduces the basic features of the work with information. It focuses on the ability to choose appropriate information sources according to the field of study. Students learn practical information retrieval techniques and work with databases. The course also deals with the principles of correct citation and some aspects of thesis writing. At the end of this course students will be able to work more effectively with information resources in the field of their study.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course students will be able to work more effectively with information resources and use the citation style in the field of their study.
- Syllabus
- 1. Basic aspects of working with information 2. Overview of basic types of electronic information resources and special library services 3. Professional information resources for media studies and journalism students 4. Working with the topic and keywords, creating a research query 5. Information retrieval strategies, using operators in databases and on the Internet 6. Practical search in multidisciplinary and subject-licensed databases 7. Citation methodology, citation standards, citation styles, citation software, plagiarism 8. Working with the EBSCO Discovery Service 9. Practical search in specialized licensed e-book databases
- Teaching methods
- The course is based on practical lessons at the computers. Active participation of students in practical exercises is necessary.

- For completing the course finishing a practical tasks and active participation in lectures are required.
