Course objectives
Once the student completes this course s/he will be able to understand and explain basic approaches to the media construction of gender; apply theories related to this area; analyze media products, contents and audiences in relation to gender; apply certain qualitative and quantitative research methods in such an analysis (particularly the analysis of contents); gain an overview of relevant literature and research in this area.

Teaching methods
The course comprises lectures and seminars. The lectures deal with theoretical approaches and research related to a given topic. In the seminars the students apply the acquired knowledge to the study of media products. One seminar has the form of a workshop in which the students analyze media contents and discuss the writing of final essays.
Assessment methods
The course is taught over a fortnight. The evaluation consists of three parts: 1. active participation in seminars, students must attend 80% of seminars (the evaluation of their contributions to the seminars makes up 20% of the final grade) 2. final essay – length 2000-2500 words (50% of the final grade) 3. written exam – 5 topics (30% of the final grade)
