- Course objectives
- The course is an introduction to the issues of media professions and ethics of journalism. After the first half of the course, students will be able to understand the associated areas and theoretical disciplines of applied ethics. After the second half, they will be able to analyze dilemmas and cases taken from media practice. In particular, they will be able to characterize and explain the following issues of the course: ethics as part of philosophy, media law and self-regulation institutes, levels of professional ethics – personal, professional and civil, norms and values, and reflection of moral dilemmas in selected cases.

- lectures and seminars; class discussions; presentations by students; homework (essays, subsequently discussed in a seminar group)
- Assessment methods
- The course is completed by a written work (review of the selected title, with emphasis on the main arguments of the journalistic profession, essay, debate in the range of 1500-2500 words) from the recommended or self-selected and studied literature. The topic can be chosen as a case study of a cause from Czech and Slovak journalistic experience or as an insight into the media environment of another country with a focus on performance conditions of journalists. The topic of the final work can also be a current personality of journalistic profession. Prior to written processing, the topic of the final work is presented and discussed at the seminar group and placed in the IS. The presentation topic is made available to other participants of the course in the IS a day before the presentation.
