- Course objectives
- The course offers a basic introduction to the possibilities of photographic media with the focus on its intelligence function. During practical trials, students will learn necessary functions of photographic apparatus and the resulting expressive possibilities and will be led to an adequate choice of means of expression in relation to the nature of the required media message. Different level of knowledge is not an obstacle. A successful graduate of the course should be able not only to use the creative potential of photography in everyday editorial practice, but also to critically reflect visual media message. Camera needed!
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction: digital vs. analog, history and present. Practical exercises: a task for half an hour.
- 2. Before photographing - digital cameras, the basics of working with DSLR, optics, basic settings, white balancing, formats, resolution.
- 3. Photos in print and electronic media, the role of photography in the magazine and newspaper. Assignment of long-term tasks.
- 4. Fundamentals of composition, color composition and depth of sharpness. Practical exercises: color.
- 5. Reportage, portrait, illustrative photographs. Practical exercises: portrait / illustration.
- 6. Working with flash. Practical exercises.
- 7. Communication with the author of the text and graphic designer, planning, previsualisation.
- 8. Editing photos, working in the graphic editor I. Practical exercises: Photoshop.
- 9. Scanning, editing photos, working in the graphic editor II. Practical exercises: Photoshop.
- 10. Discussion of the preliminary results of the long-term exercise.
- 11. Size, location on the page, descriptions, interaction with the surroundings, the construction of the narration.
- 12. Discussion of the results of the long-term exercise. Evaluation of the course.
