Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to acquire the concept, structure, types, function and basic principles of the criminal substantive law;
to understand system of criminal substantive law in the form of the grounds of criminal responsibility and sanctions, in the form of the general and special part;
to acquire the competence of the interpretation and aplication of the norms of criminal substantive law;
to understand the relations of criminal substantive law to the others law-subjects and nonlaw subjects too.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able: understand and explain theoretical aspects of basic institutes on criminal substantive law; work with informations on this subject in the larger context among others subjects; create a self-contained skilled text on the criminal law theme; make another deductions based on acquired knowledges; interpret and apply basic concepts of the criminal substantive law in the framework of the general and special part;
Syllabus
  • The concept, structure, types, functions, basic principles of the criminal substantive law.
  • The criminal responsibility, the crime, social dangerous and harmfulness of the act, the categorisation and classification of criminal act (crime), body of the criminal act (crime).
  • The subject (the offender), objective side (actus reus), object, subjective side of the crime (mens rea).
  • Obligatory and facultative signs of the body of the crime.
  • The developing stages of the crime, criminal coaction, concurrence of the crimes, recidivism, plurality of the crimes sui generis.
  • The criminal responsibility of juveniles. The criminal responsibility of juristic persons.
  • The absence of the punishability of the act (the punishability of the crimes excluding circumstances, the extinction of the punishability of the crimes causing circumstances).

Theoretical preparation during the lectures, class discussion on the basic of case-law and exercise also by means of e-learning tools.
Assessment methods
Class discussion. Written test (10 questions, 60% of correct answers).
