Course objectives
The aim of the course is the area of health promotion and disease prevention. Attention is paid to the correct identification of factors with the potential to positively influence health, especially behavioural factors. The possibilities of public health promotion are explained. The importance and effect of different lifestyle components are described. The importance of the quality of evidence and the principles of EBD in general are emphasised. Options for prevention of the most important non-communicable diseases are described and explained.
Learning outcomes
The student will explain the principles and possibilities of public health promotion.
The student will describe the effect and importance of each of the major components of a lifestyle.
The student will make recommendations regarding individual lifestyle factors.
The student will describe options for prevention of major non-communicable diseases.

  • 1) Health - individual, public and global. Population health, ways of measuring and evaluating health
  • 2) Public health promotion. Disease prevention, quality of evidence, screening
  • 3) Health promotion throughout the human life cycle
  • 4) Health protection and promotion in emergencies, injury prevention
  • 5) Lifestyle - nutrition as a risk factor
  • 6) Lifestyle - nutrition as a health promotion factor, nutritional recommendations
  • 7) Lifestyle - physical activity: impact of physical activity and sedentary behaviour on health, recommendations
  • 8) Smoking and health
  • 9) Alcohol and health
  • 10) Obesity - impact on health, causes, prevention
  • 11) Microbiome and human health
  • 12) Cardiovascular disease - epidemiology, causes, prevention
