- Course objectives
- The main aim of the subject is to provide students with sufficient basic knowledge and information about drugs used in the treatment of selected most important diseases that dietitian may encounter in the clinical practice.
The subaims are to:
- familiarize students with general principles of drug effects and drug processing in the organism,
- put emphasis on the aspects that can be reflected in the mutual interactions of food and drugs,
- introduce several drug groups building on the knowledge of general pharmacological principles, -
- introduce pharmacognosy and rational use of medicinal plants. - Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course student will be able to:
- characterize selected drug classes stated in the curriculum and pharmacological profiles of representative drugs from these groups,
- be aware of potential drug interactions with particular respect to drug-food interactions,
- distinguish basic categories of active constituents of medical herbs,
- consider rational use of selected medical herbs in medicine. - Syllabus
- Lecture 1: Overview of anticancer drugs
- Lecture 2: Pharmacotherapy of GIT I: Antiulcer agents, antiemetics, prokinetics
- Lecture 3: Selected chapters from psychopharmacology
- Lecture 4: Drugs influencing nutrition and body weight & Nutrients influencing the effect of drugs. Instructions for students' work.
- Lecture 5: Selected chapters from cardiovascular pharmacology (antihypertensives, diuretics, anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs)

- Teaching methods
- Curriculum offers attendance at lectures led by teacher of pharmacology. The attendance at lectures is not obligatory.
- Assessment methods
- The exam is carried out as a PC test. The test has 30 questions covering topics from the lectures in autumn and spring semester. There is only 1 correct answer for each question. To be successful, students need to obtain 60% of points, i.e. 18 points.
Marks are the following:
30-27 points = A
26-25 = B
24-23 = C
22-20 = D
19-18 = E
less than 18 = F - Language of instruction
